A Personal Life-Saver: The Merchant of Venice & Huck Finn Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Friendship plays a large role in both The Merchant of Venice written by William Shakespeare, and in The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin written by Mark Twain. Friendship saves the lives of both Huck and Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and Antonio in The Merchant of Venice. Huck’s friendship with numerous characters throughout the story may have been the reason for his survival. Most noticeably, Huck does not have to survive on his own because of his friendship with Jim. Jim is with him and he helps Huck row and steer the raft so that they arrived to their destinations safely. If Jim did not help Huck, Huck might have not been able to survive the long, tiring, sometimes dangerous travels along the river. In addition, friendship saves Huck’s life when Huck befriends the Gangerford family. When Huck meets the Grangerford’s, they greet him very politely, as seen in the story, “...you fly around and get him something to eat as quick as you can, poor thing, / get the wet clothes off from him and dress him up in some of yours that’s dry.” By befriending the Gangerford family,......
