The Tragedies of Shakespeare Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Ten plays are considered tragedies: "Titus Andronicus", "Romeo and Juliet", "King Lear", "Hamlet", "Othello", "Julius Caesar", "Macbeth", "Antony and Cleopatra", "Coriolanus", and "Timon of Athens." A tragedy that has been written by Shakespeare is five acts long, and always ends in the death of at least one of the protagonists of the play. Shakespeare’s tragedies are so successful, because they allow the readers to relate what they are reading to their own personal tragedies. One of the ideas behind Shakespeare’s tragedy’s, is that all life ends in death. This makes all of his tragedies almost disappointing to the reader, as they eventually realise that death is something that is inevitable within everyone. Whilst reading a tragedy by Shakespeare, one feels almost invulnerable to things such as death and pain. This is because we are reading about an entirely different character of a different age.
