How Did the Turtle Get its Shell? Long, long ago, turtles never had shells. They could run faster than the fastest deer. But when big cheetahs started to come to their land, they were being eaten and tormented. They were being eaten because the cheetahs were just as fast and the turtles had no defense against the big cheetahs. When the cheetahs got done eating and tormenting the turtles for the day, the turtles hid in the bushes and tall grass in unfathomable fright. At midnight, all the turtles grouped up and decided they would pray to the Turtle god. They prayed that they could have shells to protect themselves from the vicious cheetahs. Turtle god answered and said, "Okay, but there will be some consequences." The turtles didn't care as long as they were protected from the big cheetahs. The Turtle god answered their prayers and they all turned into turtles with shells. Later on, the turtles found out what the consequences were. They got long necks to stick out of their shell, a short tail, and worst of all; they became snail like and not mobile at all. They couldn't ......
