Summary Of The Pearl Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Summary of The Pearl The Pearl is a tragic but wonderfully told story by John Steinbeck. It is about Kino, a fisherman and his family that consists of Juana, his wife and Coyotito, his baby son. The story is set in California Baja where his people, the natives, are isolated. The story starts when Coyotito is bitten by a scorpion and Juana demands treatment from the doctor who had never before stepped a foot in the village. The doctor refused to treat Coyotito because he knew Kino had no money to pay him back. It shows that the doctor is a very greedy man indeed. It also shows that obedient and loyal Juana can be fierce when it comes to protecting her baby. Juana decided to make poultice out of seaweed as a remedy to the scorpion bite. Later when Kino goes diving for oysters he finds a particularly big one lying in an isolated spot. When he opens it he find a great pearl that he describes as ‘perfect as the moon’ and as large as ‘a seagull’s egg’. At the same time Coyotito seems to be getting better. When people found out that Kino had found ‘The Pearl’, everybody tries to trick Ki......
