Task: Write the final chapter of the novel imitating exactly the style of John Steinbeck, the chapter will show George confiding to Slim in a saloon bar in Soledad. Describing past events leading up to how and why he killed Lennie.
It was late. The evening sun was just setting behind the Galiban Mountains. In the shadows a dark and dusty dirt track could be seen. With to large fields either side. Crops in the fields were small, withered and scorched by the sun. The long and winding dusty track leads to the bar.
The bar was an old wooden shack. The noise of people chattering whist drinking. This made the bar inviting to anyone passing. The bar was called ‘The Galiban,’ named after the mountains behind. ‘The Galiban’ was small and lively. It was made from wooden planks of dark wood nailed together, as if it was built in a hurry. It looked like it had just been placed there on top of the dust. As the breeze swirled around, a strong smell of bourbon passed by.
