There are billions of comets and asteroids that fill our solar system and throughout the history of our planet the Earth has been impacted by numerous of them. Although this is not a threat that we tend to worry about on an every day basis, the effects of a large cosmic projectile hitting the Earth could be very devastating to life on earth as we know it. Depending on the size of the impacter, the damage could extend far beyond the original hit; it could have an effect on the Earth�s climate, atmosphere, temperature etc. Some scientists believe that the extinction of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago, was caused by the impact of the giant spatial object which created the Chicxulub crater on the Yucatan Peninsula. There are several other places on Earth that serve as evidence to the damage cosmic impacts can do. Some examples are the impact in Tunguska, Siberia and Arizona, USA.
