Ottoman Rule and the Middle East Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Ottoman Empire was founded in 1299 by Osman I who was a member of the tribe of Oghuz Turks. The empire was ruled by the Osmanli Dynasty, all of whom were descendents of that tribe, until its demise with World War I in 1922. During its reign the Ottoman Empire was considered one of the world’s most powerful political entities, and the countries of Europe felt threatened by its power. Its rule and ultimate decline paved the way for the future of the Middle East in terms of economic, religious, and political power. The Ottoman rule in Iraq eventually resulted in a Middle East economic monopoly and power over the rest of the world. Before the Ottoman decline Iraq consisted of only two Ottoman provinces. There was a province to the north called Mosul which was occupied by the Kurds. The Kurds there held an important asset as they owned a hot commodity in the form of an oil well. Their goal to remain an independent state was crumbled as the Ottoman Empire declined and its territories were divided under the Sykes-Picot Agreement. The agreement gave the land to France......
