This is a genetic disease that is located on the “x” chromosome and is only expressed in males while females with the disease are carriers and do not show signs or symptoms of the disease. When I was born the doctors noticed that I was smaller than most of the other newborns. As I became older my immune system was week due to my condition, so I had to be careful to try to stay as healthy as possible so as not to get sick if. Most boys who have lived as long as I have with barth syndrome have a good chance of living to full life expectancy. There is no specific treatment for Barth Syndrome. Bacterial infections caused by neutopenia can be effectively treated with antibiotics. Barth syndrome is a rare congenital metabolic and neuromuscular disorder that affects boys.
