We live in one of the largest cities in the United States. We have a transit system, but how much does it help? It is almost a necessity to own a car here. Other cities have better transit and their pollution isn’t that bad. I know we do live in a valley and the pollutants are trapped. Aside from carpooling and mass transit, we have limited options. Could we use more electric vehicles? Not if they are mass-produced and made affordable. Cost! That is everyone’s main concern. Nobody thinks ahead. When air pollution exceeds federal air quality standards, it can trigger a host of human health problems.
People don’t care to hear about these things. They will continue to do what they have always done, go about their business. If the majority of people could see the long-term effects, they might change their minds and put more effort into a solution now.
