In �Rape� by Adrienne Rich, Rich depicts the story of a woman being raped by a man. Her description of the mind set of the woman accurately describes how a woman�s naivety can be over taken by another. Rich uses the stereotypes of women and depicts how their innocence is overtaken by a man�s desire. In the first stanza, a man is described. He is illustrated as a man of strength, as it illustrates his �boots and silver badge� (4). The presence of the �gun� (5), also adds to his masculinity. These visuals are the images that men are accustomed to. They are viewed as the stronger sex that are able to overcome everything. His �unsmiling lips� (10) exemplifies his serious and unforgiving ideals. As the woman in the poem tells of the committed crime, he finds a perverse pleasure in the wrong doing.
