J Alfred Prufrock's Dilima Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," the author is establishing the trouble the narrator is having conveying his love for a woman. Prufrock believes that age is a burden and is deeply troubled by it. His love for a woman cannot be because he feels the prime of his life is over. The poem deals with a man who is self-conscious and lacks spontaneity with the inability to act on love. Prufrock is terrified of what will occur when people see his balding head or his slim and aging body. He believes everyone will think he is old. This insecurity holds him back from doing the things he wishes to do. The repetition of words like vision and revision shows his feelings of inadequacy in communicating with the people around him. Prufrock's self esteem affects his love life. He does not believe that a woman could possibly accept him or find him attractive. Prufrock is feeling confused and overwhelmed by the adversities of life so it is logical that his thought will have the same types of characteristics. In over thinking every aspect of his life, it shows that Prufrock lacks spontaneity......
