Humanities Today In order to understand humanities we must first start with the fundamentals. The word �humanism� comes from the Latin humanities, meaning �culture�. But, humanities also express the concern in human life of ancient Greeks and Romans. Humans believed that humanities pertained to their Gods. Humanities also include science, mathematics, the arts and philosophy. Therefore, Humanities is the study of human kind, meaning our surroundings. Humanities are a way that we look upon ourselves in relation to history. Art is the things in our environment we appreciate and consider beautiful.
