Rosh Hashana Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Rosh Hashanah Rosh Hashanah means the head of the year. It is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. The Jewish New Year is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the New Year. Also they pray for their people and Israel. On Rosh Hashanah it is required for families to gather together for the holiday meal. There are traditional foods sweetened with honey, apples and carrots, symbolizing sweetness, blessings, abundance and the hope for a sweet year ahead. All of the Jew’s go to the synagogue and pray. This is the Jewish house of worship and in modern time’s often religious schools and social facilities. Also the most important observances of this holiday is hearing the sounding of the shofar in the synagogue. Jews use the ram's horn as a trumpet in Biblical times to announce the new moon, holidays, and war. The Bible gives no specific reason for this.
