There is no better place than America, right? According to the Census Bureau, the top five percent of America is receiving 46.5% (and growing) of the nation’s national income, and a Sociology teacher at Stout, Ed Gott says that the top 15% of America holds an estimated 85% of the wealth! That leaves all other people in America fighting for what little money is left. Has America reached a point where the rich just keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer? Is it still possible for someone to go from “rags to riches?” The dictionary defines social mobility as the “ability to change social status.” Are Americans still able to travel from one social class to another if they work hard enough?
