John D. Rockefeller 2 John D. Rockefeller: The Businessman The recent rise and fall of fuel prices often leads us to the question why? Why is our economy the way it is? Why do different companies charge different amounts? One man that many economists credit with the way we practice business today is John Davison Rockefeller. John Davison Rockefeller was born in Richford, New York on July 8, 1939. He was the second of six children. His mother was Eliza Davison and his father was William Avery Rockefeller. When John was a boy, his family moved to Moravia and later to Owego, New York. Finally, in 1853 his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. His family actually bought a house in Strongsville which is near Cleveland (John D. Rockefeller, 2005). However, it was in Cleveland that John went to Central High School. He rented a room in the city and joined the Erie Street Baptist Church at the advice of his landlady (Tarbell, 2000)......
