During Ancient Greek times there were several great warriors, one of these warriors was Odysseus. Odysseus traveled for 10 years trying to get home after the battle of Toy. There were many obstacles on his way, but there was also kindness from others along the way. This kindness he received from others was known as “The Hospitality Code.” In this paper, I will show a few rules pertaining to the code, who followed the code, and what happened to those who did not follow the rules of the code. With any code that is written or unwritten there are always rules that one must follow. The Hospitality Code was no different. Homer’s The Odyssey gives us a glimpse as to what some of these rules may have been. Some of the rules that can be found within The Odyssey are; courtesy, gifts, nourishment, respect, and forgiveness. There are also what seem to be some unspoken rules within the story.
