Sonya Kovalevsky Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Sonya Kovalevsky was born on January 15, 1850 in Moscow, Russia. Her father, Vasily Korvin-Krukovsky, was a Ukrainian man who worked as artillery general in the Czar’s army. Her mother, Elizaveta Schubert, was German and both her mother and father were well-educated members of Russian nobility. Her grandfather, Fyodor Fyodorovich Schubert, was a noted mathematician who was married to Fyodor Ivanovich Schubert. She was the second of three children of a wealthy aristocratic family. Sonya had a sister, Aniuta, who was six years older than she, and a brother named Fedya, who was three years younger. When she was eight years old her family moved from Moscow to Palibino which is near St. Petersburg, here they moved into a large house. She always thought that her parents did not care for her because they never spent time with her; she just had an English governess who controlled all areas of her life. Her governess lived with her and her family from the time she was five to when she was twelve; this was in order for Sonya to learn how to be a “proper English Miss”. The governess was so ......
