Mothers Against Drunk Driving Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a nonprofit organization interest group that provides support and assistance to the victims of accidents that involve drunk driving. In 1950 Candy Lightner, a real-estate agent and devoted mother, was motivated to start MADD after the death of her 13 year-old daughter, Cari, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident. The man responsible for the girl�s death was Clarence Busch, a drunk driver with two prior convictions who had been previously incarcerated for a total of less than two days. Since then the original MADD organizers joined together to find ways to enforce stricter penalties for drunk driving, in order to prevent the thousands of deaths and injuries associated with drunk driving each year. In the years since MADD was started in 1980, the group has been successful in affecting public policy and legislation. Due to MADD�s persistent efforts, a presidential commission was formed in December 1983 to encourage all states to raise the legal drinking age to 21. In 1990 the MADD board of directors voted......
