Jane Eyre Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In her novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte develops a strong feminist character though Jane Eyre. Jane begins life at her aunt’s home of Gateshead, where she learns to despise her aunt and reject her from her life. She then moves to Lowood where she searches for respect and love from her classmates. After five years in Lowood, she leaves for Gateshead where she tries to find herself and ends up rejecting her over-bearing significant other. As Jane’s character develops, the characteristics of a feminist begin to shine through with intensity as she falls into all sectors of the common pattern for a feminist novel. Throughout her life, Jane has always rejected male dominance, whether it be a father figure or simply a male character. As the head of the household, Mrs. Reed represents Jane’s father figure. From the beginning, Jane pushes her away, at one point saying “I am glad you are no relation of mine: I will never call you aunt again as long as I live.
