Immigration Immigration has become one of the biggest issues in the United States. Immigration started in 1607 and lasted until 1830. The Scotch-Irish were working on farms that were not owned by them, and when it was impossible to keep on paying rent for their homes they had no other choice but to move to the United Sates. The Africans were also brought to the U.S. but not because they wanted to, but because they were forced to come since they were slaves. From 1830-1890 it was the Irish and British who started migration. The Irish migrated for many reasons but mainly because of the potato famine that killed over a million people. Since the Irish resented the British because of this then they faced depression and social hardship, and simply because they wanted better opportunities of work. From 1890-1924 the Italians, Russian Jews, Greeks, Slavs, Eastern European Jews, and Armenians were the ones who migrated.
