This essay is a critical evaluation on the extent to which I agree with a statement made by Mark Antony, who was referring to Marcus Brutus, "This was the noblest Roman of them all." from the book Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Throughout the play, Marcus Brutus only takes actions on what he believes to be the most beneficial for Rome. However, his opinions are greatly influenced by his friend Cassius. Cassius was the one who convinced Brutus that Julius Caesar was not worthy of being king, arguing that Brutus was just as good a Roman, if not better. "What should be in that 'Caesar'? Why should that name be sounded more than yours?" (Cassius, Act I, Scene 2) The fact that Brutus and Cassius are good friends strengthens Cassius' argument, so Brutus gives in to him and agrees that Caesar should not be crowned king. He decides to kill him for the good of Rome. "It must be by his death; and for my part, I know no personal cause to spurn at him, but for the general."
