Black History Month Black History Month is an educational time of month we dedicate to our African American ancestors who are recognized for their bravery, leadership, dedication, and strength to pave the way for African Americans today. Black History Month has been established since 1926, in which was started by Dr. Carter G. Woodson who earned a Ph.D. from Harvard. His purpose for starting Black History Month was because he was ashamed that very little history was written about Black Americans. So he became a pioneer in writing Black Americans into the history books and began the Negro History Week in 1926. This was held the second week in February in honor of two men who influenced the Black American population, Fredrick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln.
