The Effect of Light Intensity Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Introduction
Photosynthesis, the process in which a plant makes it own food. In order for photosynthesis to take place, there must be three substances present in the atmosphere:
· Light intensity
· Carbon dioxide
· Water
Carbon dioxide + water + light oxygen + glucose
CO2 (g) + H2O (aq) O2 + CH2O
Aim
In this biology coursework, I will find out how the light intensity affects the rate of photosynthesis. I will perform this by placing the light at varies distances, along a ruler. Photosynthesis depends on these three factors:
· Light
· Carbon dioxide (CO2)
· Water (H2O)
Light intensity
The amount of light, which a plant gets, is very important, because, light energy is captured by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts of the leaves and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and light energy into oxygen and glucose.
Carbon dioxide
We produce carbon dioxide when we breathe out, and used by plants when they photosynthesise, however the balance of carbon dioxide is being disturbed because of all the fossil fuels, which we burn.
Water
