Every day, hundreds of animals die during testing for consumer and medical purposes. �In Britain, almost 100 new cosmetics and toiletries come into the market every week, and it has been estimated that up to a million animals die annually in research connected with cosmetics alone.� (Singer 52) Even more animals are tested in the United States. Animal testing has risen in popularity over the years because people refuse to use products that are harmful for themselves, but what about concern for animals? The tests are inaccurate and cruel, especially for cosmetic and consumer products. Animal testing for cosmetic purposes is a harsh issue in today�s society and should be banned. Animal testing began in the 1920's during World War I. It was used to determine certain substances effects on humans, but animals are used because people refuse to have products tested on themselves.
