Youth today are exposed to many more influences then thirty years ago because many families have both parents working and this results in less time spent guiding today�s youth. Fifty years ago, mothers would stay at home to teach children what is right and what is wrong and help embed the goals of society in the young minds. This allows for youth to fall into the wrong groups and lead to a life of deviance (Dodge, 1997). To Begin, three major influences on whether or not a youth will engage in deviant behaviour are peer association, parental involvement and environment. First, peer association is a major influence on whether or not a youth will engage in deviant activities. When a youth engages in an act of deviance, parents will almost always blame the group of friends with who their child associates. Most parents will intervene and tell their youth to stop hanging out with that group of kids. This normally ends up with two results: One, being the child listens to their parent�s warning; or two, continues to associate with that group of people and eventually leads to deviant ......
