In 1967, Mike Nichols directed one of the most popular films of the time, The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The film linked the gap between the generations, the alienation of man from his surroundings, and the power of popular music by matching up the screenplay with a number of songs by Simon and Garfunkel. One specific song written in 1965 is �The Sounds of Silence� by Paul Simon.
