Based on your ideas of the learning approach, do you believe that the media can influence behaviour? The social learning theories used in the learning approach are approaches to child development which states that children develop through learning from other people around them. In particular social leaning theories emphasise the role of observation and imitation of role models. Bandura et al’s study, “The Transmission of Aggression Through Imitation of Aggressive Models”, demonstrates the idea that children who are exposed to aggressive behaviour from an adult role model are more likely to imitate this if they were given an opportunity than children exposed to a non-aggressive role model. This study appears to support the learning theory; suggesting that young children instinctively imitate actions they observe, without always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. Due to their role-modelling capacity to promote real-life violence, there is the chance that playing violent video games and watching violence of the television could cause......
