In the Nicomachean Ethics Aristotle expresses his ethics as the science that guides us in achieving the supreme good. He identifies this human good as happiness. Happiness according to Aristotle must be based on human nature and should begin with personal experience. Aristotle states �Thus, Happiness cannot be found in any abstract or ideal notion.� Happiness is found in something practical such as life and work. True happiness is found in an active life of a rational being or in a perfect realization continued throughout a lifetime. In other words to inquire happiness you must have a good sense of virtue and you must consist of a complete life, because so many things occur in a man�s life that you wouldn�t be able to distinguish whether or not they lived a happy or sad life until the end of the persons existence. �The final good must be complete.� People relate happiness to either good fortune or as Aristotle they relate it to virtue. �Virtue denotes a functional excellence.� Virtue is a set of qualities that enable a man to fulfill his function properly and well.
