Atticus (Character analysis) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In to kill a mockingbird Jem and Scout face the corruptions of human society, their father Atticus helps by providing a strong foundation in which to build their morals. “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb in his skin and walk around in it” (pg30) by saying this Atticus tries to teach his children that there is plenty of evil in the world, but there is also plenty of good if you look hard enough. This means that most people have good and bad qualities, the key is to appreciate the good, and understand the bad. “Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (pg90). In this book, a mockingbird is referred to as something innocent or pure. This quote was told to Scout by Atticus and when she asked Miss Maudie what it meant, she replied, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us, that’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (pg90). This statement backs my idea that a mockingbird symbolizes innocence and purity to a degree that one could look ......
