The Last Americans by Jared Diamond compares the rise and fall of the Mayan Empire to the environmental problems we face in the United States today. The
similarities in the two cultures suggest that the US might be following in the doomed footsteps of that ancient society.
The Mayan society, which was fully functioning and prosperous for many centuries, fell into decline after abusing their natural resources. One example of that was
the deforestation of pine forests, cleared for fuel, which caused a man made drought. The Mayans population growth did not take into account the lack lof living space.

site show deteriorated health in both the elite class and the commoners. This devastation led to violence among the farmers,w hich reached all the way up to te top
