Alexander the Great Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Alexander the Great, who later would conqueror the Ancient World, was born in Pella, Macedonia in 356 B.C. He was the son of King Philip II of Macedon and his mother was Queen Olympias. From a young age, Alexander was encouraged by his mother to one day become a great leader. During his youth, Alexander was taught by Aristotle, from which he learned of Achilles. He grew fond of the story of Achilles and admired him greatly. During this time, his mother announced to him that he was a descendent of Achilles. From then on, he wanted to be nothing but the best and show everyone his strengths. As a teenager, in one incident, he showed how powerful he could be. King Philip was looking to buy a horse but it was too wild and no one thought the horse could be tamed. Alexander ended up riding the horse and from then on it would be with him throughout every battle. At the age of 18, his father left him in charge of Macedonia while he invaded the area of Thrace.
