The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for more than 3,000 years. It was first a symbol for the Aryan people ,a word in Sanskrit meaning, "conducive to well- being and noble".The swastika is a symbol of prosperity and good fortune and is widely dispersed in both the ancient and modern world. It is an equilateral cross with arms bent at right angles, all in the same direction, usually the right, or clockwise. During the following years the image of the swastika was used by many cultures around the world such as Chinese, Japanese, Southern European, Native Americans ,and Indians. The swastika was used to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck. Even in the beginning of the twentieth century it was a symbol with positive connotations. It was a commonly used decoration of postcards, cigarette cases, coins and buildings. During World War II it could be found on the American 45th and on the Finnish air force until World War II.
