SACAJAWEA’S PEOPLE The Lemhi Shoshones and the Salmon River Country Sacajawea’s People by John W.W. Mann is a book about the Lemhi Shoshone Tribe. The book covers history of the people from creation to the first contact with non-Natives to the Lewis & Clark Expedition to reservation times and their struggles with the government. It puts to life, Sacajawea’s people and shows the tribe in a different light that many have just imagined. Many conflicting stories have arisen about the early inhabitants of Salmon River Country. It has been determined that humans have lived on the Salmon River (aka River of no Return) for more that ten thousand years. Anthropologists and Archeologists disagree that the Shoshone people migrated to this area from Utah and Colorado. Some testimony is based on the language spoken by the Tribe, which is Munich. Numic speakers migrated from the southwestern Great Basin in what is now southern California and Utah.
