Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Argument against the existance of God Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Fyodor Dostoyevsky presents a compelling argument against the existence of God. He uses logic and common sense, as well as five important premises to support his argument. His goal is to prove that by the existence of evil in the world, God can be disproved as well. Dostoyevsky’s argument rests on five basic premises. The first point that that Dostoyevsky makes is that if there is a God, then God is omniscient, omnipotent, and all good. God is the Supreme Being, therefore He would possess all perfections. Omniscience, omnipotence, and power are perfections. Therefore, God would have these qualities. Dostoyevsky’s second premise rests on his first premise. It states that if God is omnipotent, then He has the power to eliminate all evil. The third premise is that if God is all good, then God wants to eliminate all evil. The fourth premise is that there is evil. The fifth premise uses the other four premises and states that either God is not omnipotent, or God is not all good.
