Christopher's sympathy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Mark Haddon shows us how Christopher has to live, what he goes through and how people treats him to create sympathy in us for him.
Firstly, he showed that Christopher could not understand his own feelings and other people as well. He could not understand people¡¯s facial expressions, Siobhan even drew some ¡°pictures¡± of facial expressions like happy or sad for him but he still did not understand others. When he found the dog he did not relate his feelings, he just picked up the dog and ¡°hugged¡± it. When the ¡°police¡± questioned him, he couldn¡¯t answer. This shows that Mark Haddon is making us feel sympathy for him for his lack of emotional understanding and what people are thinking or feeling.
Secondly, Mark Haddon had showed us how he does not understand people¡¯s language. Christopher could understand what people normally say but not the subtle meanings of the words. When ¡°Mrs Shears¡± came out of the house shouting at the sight of her dog, he did not understand what she meant by ¡°fucks sake¡±.
