The Boxer The book I choose to read happens to be a book that has many morels and is also a true story. Kathleen Karr the author of the book The Boxer writes about a young teenage boy who grows up in the streets of New York City. This book takes your imagination all the way back to about the mid 50�s where poverty was the usual and this boy grew up in it. The book brings out that back in the 50�s many people did what they had to do to survive and keep there family feed. This is one of those stories and along with that storyline there is tons of drama and sad events that occur. The book starts out with a 15-year-old teenage boy whose name is John Aloysius Xavier Woods wondering the streets late at night and he comes across a sign that reads live fights tonight at the �Saloon�. It read a $5 purse for the 4-round winner. John�s family was very poor and also had no father to support them. His family consisted of his mother and 4 siblings. Fighting in these days was illegal but John knew he needed the money and went to the Salon and entered the ring. When John was in the last round......
