Motivation is the factors that will cause an individual to do more than he/she would otherwise, or it is a willingness to work and achieve arising from within an individual, but triggered by external factors. As you can see this is a good thing for a business to achieve, one way of achieving a motivated workforce is to pay them well and to provide them with secure employment. One theorist stated that all humans worked for money and therefore simply increasing their pay would increase their motivation because they are motivated by self-interest. Taylor�s theory is a form of scientific management; Maslow and Herzberg�s theories are neo-human relations. Maslow produced a hierarchy of needs this includes, physiological, security, acceptance, esteem and self-actualisation. Physiological is the lowest order of needs and self-actualisation is the highest order of needs.
