Esther should be thankful for her exile to Siberia. Although she had been taken away from her extended family and faced starvation, Esther learnt how to cope with many different things and made many new friends. If she had not have gone she would have been killed.
Esther made many great friendships. In Vilna, Esther was a loner but after a while in Siberia she made many great friends. “I had a friend to whisper with and gossip with; I played tag and hopscotch along with the other girls.” (P 117) At school in Siberia Esther had many girlfriends to play with and a best friend to confide in. In all, Esther was happy and grateful for her new friends.
If Esther had not been exiled to Siberia she would have been killed. Staying in Vilna would have ended up in death for the Rudomin family, had they not been taken to Siberia. “My mother’s brother, sister, her mother, her aunts and uncles, my beloved cousins, all were dead.” (P 199) None of Esther’s mother’s family had survived the war. “All the members of ......
