There are many things that can affect the rate of enzyme reactions. Enzymes being organic catalysts, catalysts are substances used to speed up chemical reactions. The affect of pH on the rate of an enzyme reaction is said that a change in pH can alter the R groups of the amino acids. This will cause the charges on the amino acids to change, thus the hydrogen bonding within the protein molecule also change as well as the molecular shape. With this new shape it may not be effective. An example would be protein found in the stomach, also known as pepsin. It is said that pepsin functions best in an acidic environment which makes sense because the pH in the stomach is high due to the hydrochloric acid therefore the optimal pH is low. Enzyme concentration affects the rate of enzyme reaction because if there is an inadequate amount of enzyme existing the reaction will not occur as quick as expected because the amount of enzymes is not enough to fulfill the actual requirement for all the reactant molecules.
