Expansion of Thirteen Colonies in 1763 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

As the original 13 colonies began to grow, there were benefits and costs to both England and the colonies. These benefits and costs resulted from the colonies being a part of the British Empire. What King George III and Parliament had in mind was to make England powerful and wealthy. To do this they needed colonies to make England more powerful and wealthy. They did pretty well considering they didn’t have much money. The purpose for having colonies was to establish a closed circle of mercantilism that would make the colonies sell products such as tobacco and sugar only to England. This would give England a monopoly on selling these items to other countries. The colonists had to buy certain products such as wool and iron products from England. Again this gave England a monopoly on the colonial market for these products. England collected money from the colonists through taxes that were put on goods bought from other countries. This was the only one law that was enforced on the colonists. As long as the colonies followed it the King didn’t enforce other laws this was called salutary n......
