They are developed over time, of things that one may observe and from there determine what they believe may be right or wrong. Bert Cates, Daniel, and Gandhi had convictions, and each dealt around the idea of freedom. Bert Cates believed in the freedom of speech and being able to teach and express what he thought. Daniel fought for freedom of religion, to listen and believe what God had told him . Gandhi believed in freedom in general, freedom to live and believe freely in peace. In spite of the persecution the Bert Cates, Daniel, and Gandhi faced, each refused to abandon his convictions. Bert Cates was a man of strong convictions, and he believed that evolution should be taught to students in the classroom.(Lawrence and Lee 115).
