Virgin Mary & Jesus �Beauty is in the eye of the beholder� is the famous vignette we usually attribute to human beings. On a recent trip to the N.Y. Metropolitan Museum of Art I discovered that nowhere is this truer then in the world of art. The beauty of art is clearly in the heart of the admirer. The museum houses and displays �art� that to the untrained eye seems nothing more then random paint on a canvas. Some art seems as if a child of no more then five could have been its master, yet it is priceless and very desirable. Yet others are self evident to be created by true masters. The Museum is home to great works of Medieval Art. Predominantly sculptures of religious symbols and artifacts. Of particular interest to me was the contrast between different sculptures of the Virgin Mary as portrayed by the masters of different eras. As with the painted art the portrayal of Mary changes throughout the periods of medieval times.
