The Yellow Wall Paper and A Rose for Emily Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The story “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “A Rose for Emily” are very similar in the fact that the authors are using the same theme. Both of the main characters in these stories suffer from some sort of mental disorder. The settings are both from the 1800’s; we can tell this by the way each woman was treated. For example Emily’s father controlled her life completely and wanted her to marry into the right class of people. In the ‘Yellow Wall Paper” the woman’s life was taken over by her husband, these things were common in the 1800’s when the man ruled the house and the woman had no rights. In “A Rose for Emily” the main character Emily’s life is told by an unnamed narrator or third person, presumably someone who lived in the same town as she did or perhaps a family member. Emily has suffered some sort of breakdown due to her father’s death. We can tell this because of the fact that Emily does not believe her father is dead. Throughout this story Faulkner portrays Miss Emily as once an important person in the town and then shows her gradual decline into a deluded old lady who cannot tell ......
