Islam is the religion, and the way of life, of about one-fifth of the world�s population. Its adherents called themselves Muslims, and believe Islam is God�s final message to humankind, a reconfirmation of perfection of the message that God has revealed though earlier prophets. Islam is the world�s second most followed religion. It began more than 1400 years ago in Arabia, but rapidly became a world faith, and now has around 1.48 billion followers worldwide (islamonline.net). Islam is an Arabic world, which means submission to the will of God; it also means peace, the peace one finds through submission to God�s will (Ahmed, 34). A person surrenders to the will of God by living and thinking in the way God has instructed. The central Muslim belief is that there is only one God, unique, incomparable, eternal, absolute and without peer or associate. He cannot be perceived in this world but through His works.
