Many ask, “why bother?” “Do you want to vote?” As I watched the campaigning of the 2004 presidential candidates, I began to understand reasons why our young American’s do not vote.
A lot of young adults feel that the issues do not affect them. Prescription drug coverage? War on terrorism? Social Security? These issues come across as just words to the young Americans, but in fact, these issues greatly affect them. If prescription drug coverage were added to medicare, who would pay for it? We would. We would also pay a significant chunk of social security. I know of many young people who have medical issues that require prescription drugs. Now if there were no prescription drug coverage, who would pay it? As a working student I naturally look down at my social security and tax cuts on my pay check and role my eyes. Young people may not realize it, but ultimately tax cuts do affect us. War on terrorism has up until recently been a issue kept in the dark......
