Affirmative action - A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Affirmative action is basically a policy or program giving special advantageous treatment to minorities to make sure they receive equal opportunity. After careful examination of the opinions on affirmative action given by Andrew Valls, Shelby Steele, and John Kekes, I have decided that I must negate affirmative action. Affirmative action is like “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” as it disguises itself as a plausible solution to fighting racism. I believe there is no need for affirmative action because it does more harm than good and a better solution would be to remove affirmative action altogether. Valls’ main argument for affirmative action centers on equal opportunity which can be achieved through (1) redistribution, (2) rectification (compensation), and (3) diversity. Valls says, “African Americans are owed affirmative action preferences in rectification for the crimes of slavery.
