Immigration:Transplanted Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In between the late 19th century and early 20th century, there was a large number of immigration into America. During that time, immigrants had the main role in society. Until this day, there are many disputes of whether immigrants were uprooted or transplanted. Oscar Handlin believes that immigrants were uprooted, that they were victims of migration and lost everything, such as culture, religion, family, and property. John Bodnar, however, counters Oscar’s argument and states that immigrants were transplanted. He argues that the lives of immigrants should be analyzed, rather than always assuming, the stereotype that all immigrants suffer become worse by coming to the U.S. In most cases, immigrants were able to adjust to the economy and society quite nicely and still manage to keep their traditions from their homeland. Even though, immigrants faced some problems, they were not as great as to change the characters of the immigrants.
