Babe Ruth was the best to play the game of baseball; he set many records and was a big part of the game. I, Roger Maris set my goals high to beat his best record of all, his home run record. Babe Ruth hit 60 homeruns in one single season. The year he did this was in 1927.
In 1953 I started my career with the Cleveland Indians, but then was traded six years later to the Kansas City Athletics. I was then traded a year later to the New York Yankees. That’s when I started on my home run race. In 1961 I broke Babe Ruth’s single season home run record. He hit 60 home runs and I hit 61. I also got voted most valuable player and male athlete of the year, ….. “played in seven World Series and seven All-Star games. He hit 275 career home runs and won the Gold Glove Award for outstanding defensive play. The New York Yankees retired his number "9" in 1984” (Roger).
