The Senate and House have recently passed legislation for a 10-fold increase in penalty fines for indecent exposure on the air. This includes broadcasters that show vulgar, profane, and indecent material on the air during certain hours. The bill will set the indecency fines to $325,000 per violation that is aired on television or radio stations between the hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. These times are considered prime family viewing hours. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist explained, �Families should be able to turn on the television during that period of time and trust the broadcasters to abide by the law�Broadcasters should know that if they cross the line the penalties will be serious.� An exclusion from the bill is cable or satellite networks and services. Even though this bill is passing, parents should not leave their children unsupervised and rely on the media to abide by the rules.
