The economic relationship between Indian and Canada solely relays on the assistance of Canada given to India ever since 1951 through CIDA, The Canadian Development Agency. At one point in history, India was the largest recipient of aid from Canada, but over the years that aid figures have dramatically went down. Canada�s and India�s relationship went from an assistance relationship to relationship based on trade only. In July 1991 India�s economy began to reform and Canada began to expand its economic presence in other markets rather then the USA market. Beside Canada expanding the crisis in South Asian countries during 1997 also contributed to Change Canada�s from South East Asia to South Asia. This crisis also identified India with enormous scope for business affiliation in the South Asia region. On May 1998 India had a nuclear test which Canada opposed to, and end up putting the relationship on hold for sometime.
